You should be looking at:
How is the patient…..ABC assessment in particular looking for sepsis
What drugs have they received
Are there any signs of bleeding….remember not all bleeding is blood on the floor
Patient fine with no signs of infection
Normal pre-op: Hb 110, plt 190, WC8.4 Neut 3.8,
No bleeding either overt or occult as far as you can see
They have received the following drugs in the post-operative period: antibiotics, morphine, LMWH,
Are you worried about the Hb? Would you transfuse at this level?
What are the most likely causes of the thrombocytopaenia?
